Yesterday (30.3.) I came back home from a 10 days trip to Gran Canaria. If you do not know, where the island is located, look here:
[link]Many people are surprised by the geological location of the Canary Islands, for it is parallel to the border of Morocco and Western Sahara! But politically they do belong to Spain.
It was my seventh stay at the Canary Islands at all, and my second at Gran Canaria.
Most people (especially germans, for about 90% I suggest of all the tourists are indeed from Germany) connect this name with white beaches and palms - and red, sunburned, fat tourists. Honestly, you can find them indeed at Gran Canaria. And fortunately, most of them at ONE point of the island: Maspalomas/Playa de Ingles. There you can find also not only white beaches, but a whole mini-desert! If you travel there you can take a five minutes walk to from your hotel to the beach and stay there for the rest of your holidays.
This is what I never did on any of the Canary Islands (by the way, Gran Canaria gives your for that kind of holiday the best conditions).
The 10 days I spend together with my family in a house in the mountains. Nevertheless, we had a palm in front of it

. It was wonderful, I used neither TV nor a watch, my mobile phone I did left at home, do not ask me, where the next internet point was - I even did not read the newspaper! But I took my camera with me

. The most time we hiked through the mountains and valleys, my feet still hurt und my shoulders are sunburned. I took about 400 pictures - many flowers, and more pictures of (well, guess..) mountains. I will load up some of them, the first you can already see here:
